Akasabi

IdentityPublication

Akasabi is an architectural practice and lifestyle brand led by the architect Viraj Kataria. We created the visual language for the brand, including how it would extend into product offerings and a set of two villas in Goa called Dos Hermanos. We developed the logo, the iconography, illustrative style, typography systems, custom illustrations, verbal identity, imagery guidelines, maps, colour systems, and a brochure for the architectural project Dos Hermanos.

The visual identity starts with the monogram, a lowercase "a" followed by a full stop, reflecting the brand's focus on pause.

In the wordmark akasabi, the subtlety of the letterform and the curve of the lowercase 'a' - with a spur that angles and flows perfectly into the next letter, 'k' - reflects the brand's focus on flow.

A sense of quiet is reinforced by creating layouts using strategic negative space and images showcasing the dynamic forces of nature: wind, water, earth, and sunsets.

A set of architectural illustrations of botanical forms was created in stippled form to be placed into the schemas, contrasting with the straight lines of the floor plans and highlighting the balance between the built and the unbuilt.

A set of eight icons depicting Viraj's design elements - flow, pause, sensorial, arboreal, rooted, intimate, and textured - was created to represent the forces of creation that drive his inspiration.

In the illustration of the houses Dos Hermanos, we drew not just what one sees above ground, but also the roots, allowing one to visualise the foundation layers and see the beauty of the greenery around in a more complex way. Nature is often something we sense even before we see; in its intricacy and organic forms, we wanted to project this feeling as architectural elements that are not just beautiful, but living, breathing, and cohabiting.
